Anyone read about the Russians thinking about putting banner advertising in low Earth orbit? The French discussed the idea in the 90's and it is now very plausible. Also, as an aside from that, the Japanese are contemplating a satellite to produce fake meteor showers. And worse, except it would be in stationary orbit over China, the Chinese are contemplating a moon like light to reduce the need for street lights. Any thoughts? I'm not keen on any of these ideas and their waste and their destruction of natural beauty.

I believe these are pretty old ideas. They pop up from time to time. I remember seeing an old drawing from the 50’s that illustrated a ring of light circling the Earth that would light the world 24/7 thereby “lessening the dangers of the dark”. They didn’t take into account the damage that light does to the ecosystems that depend on the dark, not the least of which is global climate change. That said, I wouldn’t put it past some governments to commission such stupidity.
