I don't think there is a question that there is some luck. I also think that the majority of accomplishments and failures rely on your motivation, planning, dedication to the goal and following through a lot of the time could have a bigger affect on your accomplishments. There can be some luck in there too though such as meeting the right people or working with the right people or being friends with the right people who can at least encourage you or give you advice or actively help you in your goals. Then you have the people who are born into the right situations where it's A LOT easier to accomplish your goals. Look at a person who is born into a rich family and they already have all the financial funding they will need to accomplish any goal they want. You also have to set your mind to it, but it's a lot easier in that situation. It's not black and white either way, but I think there is a bit of luck in everything you do that involves other people and different circumstances. There are always outside forces that we have to deal with. Some of your planning in that helps, but I also think some luck helps also. Different people might have a different definition of luck though. Is luck falling into a pile of money in the middle of the street, or is it putting yourself in a position to meet an influential person? I think there are many factors that can probably be considered "luck".
