@GipsyOfNewSpain The German rank roughly translates as Lance Corporal, and in the Germany army it did not carry NCO status, and is more the equivalent of, private first class. His applications for NCO, were twice rejected by officers who considered him unstable. Not being pedantic just thought you might find it interesting.

He was at least a Corporal and that is The End of the Story as far as His Rank while in Active Duty was Concerned!!!!! It was WWI German Army Rank Structure. You Like it or Not... @JackPedigo Oh he got "Gassed" by the british even if british claimed germany was first to use "Tear Gas" in WWI. Not going to dig out who was first.... He was Blind for about 2 months. He earned medals during the war as a Trenches Messenger. NO BONE SPURS!!!!.
@GipsyOfNewSpain This may come as a surprise but he did a lot of good things for the Germans in the beginning. He created a program to work on environmental programs and created jobs and was similar to Roosevelt. There was even a prominent American who wanted to nominate him for the peace prize. He as corrupt but played the good card at first completely unlike you know who.
