Is there a word for a false flag of a false flag?

New Knowledge. Talk about needing to justify your own job.

Who has decreed that it is a horrible, evil activity for a foreign country to attempt to influence an election? Anyone in the world is perfectly free to put forth information regarding any subject. That information needs to be critically analyzed and verified before a discriminating voter will be swayed.

I would not have voted for Roy Moore in any event, not because of alleged foreign “interference” but because of his attempts to intermingle religious dogma with the legal system, actions for which he was twice kicked off the bench.

It is unfortunate that politics is such a sordid game of lies, accusations and demonization, but those who engage in those tactics often damage themselves more than they damage their opponents.

It's well understood that election interference by Russia (and others) was at least as much about causing strife and maximizing polarization as it was about pushing their favored candidates. So some of their accounts pushed liberal extremism as well as conservative extremism. Anything so long as it got people bug-eyed and panicky.

Russia in particular plays the long game, they want to destabilize societies like ours (not just ours, either) and undermine confidence in the institutions, various social norms, etc, and destroy the cohesiveness of the peoples they are attacking.

In fairness ... we have played those games on the world stage too, and I seldom hear anyone pointing that out.

@powder Yep I read it. Yeah they should be investigated too. But it has nothing to do with whether Russia should be investigated or sanctioned; this is just more "what about-ism" that deflects from the fact that no matter who ELSE does bad shit, ANYONE who does bad shit is no less liable for doing it.

And I do think there's a difference in degree and even kind between New Knowledge and Russia. Think of it like the difference between, say, me doing drugs and encouraging my family to do them, and me slipping drugs into your kid's milk. There are scenarios where I could be held liable for getting my kids hooked but once I try to hook yours, particularly in ways they aren't even aware of, that's a little different situation to say the least. Because it crosses established and agreed external boundaries. It is a breach of privacy and freedom of association.

It is not moral for Russia, the Saudis, or anyone else to buy influence or to meddle in US elections.

It is not moral for the US to do it to other countries.

It is not moral for New Knowledge to have done it.

Whether any of those 3 suffer get off scott-free says zero about whether the others should, too.
