If you think the country is being destroyed by porn and the LGBT community, and you support the NRA, then you need to do something to straighten out your fucked up priorities.

There seems to be an assumption in your statement that NRA members don't watch porn (ha! have you met any NRA members????!!! Most are ex-Military and they LOVE their porn!!! LOL) or don't support LGBT rights.

Also, whilst I am an NRA member (lifetime membership, not annually), I was also a founding member of the several LGBT groups including groups that support and fought for equal marriage rights. I have, personally, as an ordained minister performed over 250 same sex weddings/commitment ceremonies. I also used to work for an alliance that produced Gay Pride parades back in the 1990s and early aughts. I also was heavily involved in getting Don't Ask Don't Tell repealed and allowing LGBT persons to serve openly in the military.

Are you aware that tens of thousands of LGBT people hold concealed carry licenses as personal protection? Preserving the individual's right to self-defense as an inalienable right needs to be maintained. In a perfect world, we wouldn't need the NRA to lobby to maintain the Constitution....but, unfortunately, we do.

I think your argument is actually with radical/evangelical religious people who use their version of GawdAwful to discriminate, oppress, and marginalize others who don't believe as they do.

That's where a lot of the trouble starts, when we stereotype any group. We are all doing our best raise our families, and prepare ourselves for retirement. A mix of conservative and liberal ideas struggling to find their place.

@Mortal because you lump all NRA supporters into one little box to fit your agenda and I was merely pointing out your prejudices, stereotyping, and assumptions. I know it hurts to be told you're wrong...but, dude, you're wrong on so many levels.

@Mortal oooooo coming from you? means nothing. Whatevs. Sorry 'bout your feelings, bro.

@Mortal because your logic is faulty and flawed and you engage in stereotyping and assumptions and somehow it's my fault? LOL

@Mortal nice....cherry picking too? Add in FOUNDING member of the Gay Lesbian Marriage Alliance....former director of the LGBT organization responsible for bringing Gay Pride parades to more than 20 major cities....and ordained minister who fought for marriage equality and who has done over 250 LGBT weddings....

Oh...and well-known activist for almost 30 years in the LGBT community...
Former Military...staunch defender of the Constitution and individual rights.

As I said before, the NRA is the biggest lobbyist for the 2nd Amendment. In a perfect world, we would need anyone to lobby to keep our Constitution intact. But we do.

If a few asshats in a GOOD organization do something wrong without the members knowing, that doesn't make the organization bad. Just the asshats who did bad things.

I don’t particularly care about the rest of the stuff, but porn? I mean, I know porn has become more accepted because of the internet’s easy access to it, but that doesn’t mean it is a good thing. I’m kinda against porn.

@irascible well, it exposes people to a few things that are unnatural. One is an enhanced body norm... suddenly people start to expect all bodies to be porn star bodies. Another is ‘porn creep’, that people start watching and getting excited by increasingly extreme forms of behaviour. It’s also addictive, and it ultimately has negative effects on one’s relationship with real women.

I’m just not convinced that it is harmless. That said, I’m in favour of sexual education and simple manuals such as the Kama Sutra, and I think it’s partly because those interests are going unfulfilled that some kids turn to porn and get caught up in a porn addiction.

@OwlInASack yes, that’s a good summary. Sex when young should be a fun exploration of what comes naturally, not something that is loaded with a whole bunch of highly questionable preconceptions.

@irascible yes, those problems are not limited just to porn, but the combination does mean it could harm a lot of people. There probably isn’t a sensible way to regulate internet porn, but people can at least educate themselves about the downsides.

@irascible @Denker @OwlInASack May I weigh in? I agree that modern pornography is harmful. It sometimes focusses on the 'barely legal' and from experience working with offenders this directly lead to a desire to look at inages of children. Porn is also rather like heroin in that over time its potency becomes less effective, hence the desire for sronger stuff. Cooersion is also a feature in addition to out and out violence.

@Amisja it sounds like an under-researched area, and I certainly think different people will react differently to viewing porn. Perhaps for people with underlying tendencies it will end up functioning like a ‘gateway drug’ into genuine sexual offences.

I was watching porn last night, and the dearth of good porn for women was damned annoying!! Even the sites that claimed to be for women, not-so-much, in fact indistinguishable from all other stupid men's porn. Open to suggestions, anybody.....?
