If we believe in self I determination of people,why do EU,UN and US don't recognise the Independence of Catalonia?

I think the Spanish did themselves a disservice when they trashed the referendum last year.

They would have probably won the popular vote against devolution. (Similar to the Scottish vote in the UK)

As it was they just came across as bullies and the international communities as spineless cowards who didn't want to rock the boat.
