Someone asked for those who do not agree with Sam Harrison. (CORRECTED thanks for the note Harris. Brought to mind this short but valuable talk.
I could agree wholeheartedly with Harris if he would just change one word: religion. Everything he says is true of fundamentalism, but not true of “religion”. And what really puzzles me is... he must surely have access to that information, but for some reason is either blind to it, or chooses, for reasons unknown to me, to deny it. If someone has heard him address this issue please tell me his reason. Thanks.
@MissKathleen
I’m writing a book.
Please explain how his use of the word "religion" does not apply to his presentation.
Your argument ". . but not true of “religion”. is not supported by your ". . . he must surely have access to that information, but for some reason is either blind to it, or chooses, for reasons unknown to me, to deny it. If someone has heard him address this issue please tell me his reason. Thanks."
@NoMagicCookie
The word “religion” is broader in scope than the atrocities Harris outlines here. And not just in this one video, but Harris’ entire outlook, as far as I can tell, carries a lot of truth, as relates to a fundamentalist attitude to religion. But not at all to non-fundamentalist religious attitudes. So, yes, what he’s saying applies to religion, but not all religion.
