Not sure I agree. (Also understanding the humor intended.)

Parents have fantasies that their kids are mini-mes and that's not been my experience at all. In fact, I think the concept is an ancient leftover from religious traditions – scripture having us believe that kids are properties for us to indoctrinate at will. So, we circumcise them, pierce their baby ears, feed them fairy tales as fact, force them into activities their hearts may not be in, etc.

I don't see that much of me in my kids. They're in a different time and their experience is very different. (Their parents aren't together, for one thing.) And whatever of me they have in them, I can say proudly they're managing it a lot better than I did.

If anything, the hardest pill to swallow for most parents is how different from them their kids can be. Then, accepting that and allowing them the space and support to be themselves. That's the bigger challenge.

Ah shit. Well, when you're right you're right.

Still, parenting the younger me out of my children is a lot easier than parenting their mother out of them. At least I know where I went wrong. When they start acting like her, I just tell her to come get her goddamn kids lol

My daughter will even throw it back in my face. “Where do you think I learned it from, Mom?” Ugh!

Sometimes it took her sister to explain .. “Daddy,” “she’s just like you.” ..maybe ‘that’s’ what I’d loved about her mother smile001.gif

YES! 17 and she is immortal at this moment in her mind! ❤️❤️ I remember THAT!
