There are moments in life that are so stark and stunning in their depiction that they serve as distillations of the world's most fundamental truths. Watching a woman so old that she needed help getting out of her seat, putting a flower on the casket of her 19 year-old granddaughter is the most poignant illustration of life having never promised to be fair that I have ever witnessed. I don't even have words beyond that...

This is the ''price'' we pay for love, isn't it? Wasn't it Gibran who said something about ''Remember..when happiness is at your table, misery is under your bed?" A clumsy phrase but so, so true! It's hard to say ''thanks'' for this painful image....but.....thanks.

That is a terribly sad image and so eloquently described. We have no choice but to cling on to this little blue dot for as long as we can and live for the bursts of joy.

Outliving one's child is its own special hell. Watching your children suffer is, too.

I think the saddest and most disturbing thing I have ever seen was when our country (US) elected our current president.
