I posted earlier in the week about my beloved Lab "Jake" taking his last walk, and I am positive that there is no afterlife of any kind or for any species. My wife and I dug Jake a grave Thursday, a laid him to rest. Now Jake had a favorite ball that he carried around most of the time, and before we covered him up, I put that ball in there with him, and it made me think, there's no way Jake will ever know I buried his favorite ball with him, so why did I do it?

I think it's because I'll know it's there with him.

Long time dog owner feeling your pain! So sorry for your loss! I too have "sent" things with my friends.

As Agnostic, I don't know if there is or isn't anything after death. Part of me believes in all having some being, a sense of self. Don't know if that dies when the body does or if it goes elsewhere. Guess I'll just wait and see.
You did the right thing with your dog. All you did was in respect and love for you and your departed friend.

Have an internet hug. It sounds like Jake had a great life and that's the best we can do for those we love.

I do very similar things, and get upset when someone tries to remove a collar from a dog I have had to have put down, as if they are taking yet another thing from my beloved pet, as if losing its life isn't enough.

I know, the lady at the vet's office asked what I wanted to do with the Jake's collar. I told her to leave it on him, and she gave me a look like it was a strange request. I just wanted to leave him as whole as I could.
