I definitely do not have anything against a powerful woman and would vote for one for president if she was qualified ,but I cringe when I am exposed to this womans voice . She is an embarrassment, and the best thing that can happen for the republicans.She has knee jerk reactions to to all that she thinks is wrong with America but no common sense or logic to realize her idealistic views are not practical or feasible in today’s environment.Sure these ideas are great but they can not be implemented .

A person that is powerful does not need to announce that they are powerful. They simply do their “thing” and go about their business. To announce they are powerful suggests that they are unsure of themselves, at best.

To my knowledge, women like Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, Oprah, Clare Booth Luce, Helen Gurley Brown and Michelle Obama never announced that they were powerful. They just took that mantle and wore it and went about their business.

With all do respect, Rob. I think you misinterpret. She isn't saying she is powerful. Her statement means that even though she is a women, she is as powerful as a man. In short, she is saying a woman is as powerful as a man, and her actions prove her point and she is getting blowback because she is a woman, brown skinned and a latino. And the bigotted mostly men are driven crazy. It is clear she is VERY SURE of herself. That also makes the men crazy. If they were sure of themselves or mature adults, it would not be a problem.

She didn't just announce out of the blue that she is powerful. Her comments, that are misordered in the OP above, were part of a response in an interview with The New Yorker editor, David Remnick regarding "women [in politics] are often either characterized as hideous harpies or pretty idiots." I think all of the women you mentioned have had positive and uplifting things to say about women, which would, of course, include themselves.

I think a different meaning comes across when her statements are quoted correctly, and in context of the fuller interview.

"The idea that a woman can be as powerful as a man is something that our society can’t deal with. But I am as powerful as a man and it drives them crazy."

[Edit] Pasted incorrect link.

@AlPastor that context helps. It would have been better had she said “strong women” or “they see me as powerful.”

@Rob1948 it would not be better... She said it correctly herself... She is powerful... Period... She didn't even need to compare herself to men at all.... To change her words would lessen her power...

@Cutiebeauty power does not derive from the words a person utters though those words can dilute one’s power. Power derived from position, ideas, principles and one’s self-confidence as well as it does from how others perceive you. If you have to tell someone you are powerful, you aren’t.

@Rob1948 that's a load of nonsense... If a powerful man said the same thing. ... ? Away with that nonsense..

@Cutiebeauty you are entitled to your opinion, but if a powerful man said the same thing... he would be ridiculed.

And, we have such an example telling how powerful he is everyday. It’s both ridiculous and pitiful and down right frightening.

His is not the 44 individuals who preceded him. He is Donald Trump... the only president to ever proclaim how great he is.

@Rob1948 your response makes no sense. ... Sorry...

@Cutiebeauty it takes a little thinking on your part. I’m sure you would get it if you tried. Here is a hint. Obama is #44. Trump #45. Think about it.

@Cutiebeauty since you said you did not understand (that it was nonsense) it hardly qualifies as mansplaining.

If you don’t understand, that is your problem.

As for the insults... I’m not gonna bother to insult you back. I’m just going to report you.

@Rob1948 I didn't say I didn't understand... I said it's nonsense... Totally different things in the English language lol .. report me? Feel free little one... ??

@Cutiebeauty insults again? Tsk tsk.

@Rob1948 wow! You sure are a sensitive little fella, ain'tcha lol my apologies... I was just having a little fun ?

@Cutiebeauty since when are insults legitimate fun? I can only imagine the howls of outrage had I said any of the following in this conversation directed at you (only used for examples as I would never say these things in person or writing):

“Honey,” “little girl,” etc.

Consider that the next time you decide to insult.

Sorry, your apology does not seem sincere.

@Rob1948 OK... Whatever.... ???

@renickulous :and your opinion on any of this is worth anything?? Why??? Who are you?? Your reaction just proves the assertion by AOC. There is nothing you can say that you haven't already said that reveals who you are completely. You can't hide, DUDE.

@conrep:You are being to kind in your acertation of one of the most dim witted individuals in public service.
Another male who proves her point. First of all, what does acertation mean??Of course you won't agree, but she is one of the most "witted" in the government. You have no eyes to see or ears to hear, so you won't get it.

Actually most women are much stronger emotionally than men too.

@Gooniesnvrdie Not as broad as you think. Give a woman a bit of self confidence and she is unstoppable.

@Gooniesnvrdie Did you ever hear me mentioning anything about her vagina? That all came from you. Unstoppable can be good or bad, depending what it is, however most women are caring individuals, although there are horrible ones there too.

Sure, piss off men.. It’s a good way to some day lose the presidency ~

She's more powerful than a man and she's more intelligent too...

@powder of course she can have it... She has it... She took it... It wasn't given to her by any man lol. So scary... Right?
