anyone out there had to wear a holter monitor? it's a recording device with a bunch of leads stuck on the chest & back which records the heart rate for 24 hrs.
i was hooked up this morn. relaxing now with a MM whiskey & a beer. will be going to our monthly trivia pizza night at our GC where i'll have a pint of Jagged Face, a local IPA. it would be interesting to see how the combination of the trivia with the alcohol affects my heart rate.

I wore one about 20 years ago for diagnostic purposes. The result was that I was found to have supraventricular tachycardia -- which just means that my heart will randomly go into overdrive (like 130 beats per minute). There are two possible treatments -- medication (which is what I chose) and going in to the heart to cauterize the node that is causing the problems. The meds work great.

i'm on meds now. my alternative is an ablation which is basically the same procedure that you could have had. the procedure is kind of a crap shoot. but i know a much older guy than me that had it done last year & his heart rate is right back to normal.

Wore it about 10 years ago after experiencing several instances of my heart racing. Of course in that 24-hour time nothing happened. Still have those occurrences, maybe once every 2 or 3 months, but do not mention to any doctor.......I find as an older woman you need to be very selective in what you complain about or you get dismissed as an attention-seeking whiner

they already know i'm having an A flutter episode b/c the last cardioversion didn't work. this one is for a cardiologist i'm seeing for the 1st time.
so long as you palpitations only last for brief spells i wouldn't worry too much about it.
a friend of ours quit alcohol completely b/c of palpitations. alcohol always had a lot to do with my episodes. i've cut back a lot but am not going to deny myself one of my last few pleasures.

@callmedubious wish it was that simple, I have been a 99% teetotaler for all of my 70 years. Good luck to you!

My daughter had to wear one when she was 14 because she had heart palpitations and nearly fainted numerous times. Her doctor didn't learn anything useful from it.
