So, there is this person I have to communicate with every day, trust me if I didn't have to I wouldn't. They are Christian, and I didn't feel it was necessary to identify as an Atheist because that's none of her business. If she asked me point blank, I would have no qualms with telling her.

Anyway, she annoys me to no end. Whenever we'd have some discussions, she'd just insert the concept of God as though it had relevance to the conversation.

Just recently, I had mentioned that outer space was fascinating, and that I was drawn to it because it made me feel so small that there were stars that were a billion times bigger than the earth out there. It sometimes gets me emotional because I find it truly breathtaking!

So, anyway, she gets excited and goes (not verbatim, but along these lines), "God even knows the number of hairs on our head! It's truly amazing!" I immediately got irritated and was trying to flee the conversation. She continued with "God even gave flies in colder regions tiny hairs on their legs and none to flies in hotter regions! The smallest details show how great God is!" ?????

Now, I'm not one for religious debates because I was not the position to argue because of a few things:

  1. I didn't have the energy.
  2. I had not researched enough to throw something back at her.
  3. It would have been a waste of my time with her.
  4. She has some sort of Biblical degree, which I translate to she wasted her money on a degree that is filled with bullshit, and I don't feel like hearing scripture.

I just smiled and said, "Heh, okay..."

Anyone who knows me well knows that when I say that it means I don't agree with you, but won't waste time debating.

As a former Christian, I know exactly what she's referring to and it reminds me of those days I was brainwashed.

Listening to that now makes me feel sorry for people like her because the truth of the matter is that she doesn't know shit and chooses to stay ignorant. She has no proof of this all knowing God, but there are pics of outer space of these giant stars. There are documentaries of the cosmos! There is footage that that shows that there are more galaxies outside if us! Now we're getting into the theory of multiple universes. I'd be digressing if we go into that. Lol!

How could you sit there and think your God is so amazing when they're is literally not a trace of his existence? Riddle me that one!

Anyway, just wanted to share that.

PS: I don't know if I categorized this correctly.

Hi, again. My alarm tells me to get breafast, or miss it and wait for lunch.

Houston. My wife and I enjoyed the city in the mid-1960s. She taught school and I worked for a company that worked for NASA.

Outer space. Do you like scifi, science, or both? I enjoy scifi and do science. Take a couple of minutes and do a search on “What are the most popular kinds of fiction?”
....
Scifi is one of them but science requires testable hypotheses and tests. Scifi does not.

For scifi, NOVA on PBS is ok. For science, www.thunderbolts.info will take your hat off and hand it to you. Or at www.newtoeu.com you can get a free PDF document that may do the same. If you have the time, try one or both.

About your interest in outer space; ...“Ouch, there goes my alarm clock; I’ll be back.”

I would say that I so wish that since God is so powerful and can and does manipulate circumstances to his liking, that he would manipulate it that way so I did not never ever had to have another bad hair day in my life. That would make me happy I would say. See how she likes them apple.

I bet she'd complain to the higher-ups that I was being intolerant of her. Ha ha!

@CatiValti23 She would and you could say that you felt that she was being intolerant of you too, and so it would go on.

I think we've all been there.

I'll bet he even knows how few fucks you give, too! Wow, that's some omniscience!

I think she is getting the point that whenever she utters God, my ears automatically shut off. Lol!

I laughed at that too! Lol! It used to get on my nerves when people said, "he knows EVERYTHING!" I just laugh.

In my opinion, you did the right thing. It is an argument you will never win. It's like telling an alcoholic they have a drinking problem. They have to figure it out for themselves. You might get them to see it over time, but since you aren't even friends, what would be the point?

Yes! Someone who understands me! I don't waste my energy with someone who has made up their mind about something. If they're open-minded and inquire about my beliefs free of judgment, we'll have that conversation. I have friends who are believers and we discuss things together without judgment and hatred. I prefer it like that. I don't do hostility.
