I was there in September. If I ever leave New York, it will be for Santa Fe.

Much of the American West was once covered by a salt-water sea. The mesas (or 'buttes' as they are called farther north) are the remnants of islands that once protruded from that sea. (No coincidence that fossils of long extinct fish and crustaceans are sometimes found in their slopes).

yep . I can't get a shot of it but on one side of the highway are these kinds of formations and the other is a totally different kind of geological process
