I wonder if anybody here from the US have been following the mass shooting in New Zealand and how they are dealing with it?
In the US nothing but nothing happens after a shooting, oh yeah there are flowers and lots of thoughts and prayers.
In New Zealand the whole country gets involved, the Prime Minister (Jacinta Arden) gets involved, the gun laws get changed within a few days, ordinary people speak out and dispose of their guns, the population pour out in sympathy with the family of the victims, etc, etc.
So why can the same thing not happen in the US where mass shootings are a daily occurrence?
I am a Twitterer and I have noted a multitude of responses (matching yours) from people in the U.S.
There are so many people in the states who support gun control. Sadly, there are also a lot of people who cling to their guns like they cling to their religion and will fight to the death to uphold the status quo. The NRA (National Rifle Association) has connected gun rights to religion, politics and patriotism aka Guns, God and Country! They (NRA) financially back many politicians in order to keep the gun laws exactly as they are. Then, when it comes to voting time, gun owners will vote for the politician/s who claim allegiance to the NRA. The NRA has a strong political influence.
It is all about power and $$$$$.
Hmm... Good point. Obviously it's motivated by our "rights" but what I'm wondering is. Did the guy believe he was motivated by "god"?
No, he did not mention God at all. He praised Donald Trump though, what does that tell you.
