Sometimes life just gets in the way.

Very true. It's all fun and games until a true conflict comes up...yet some conflicts are deeper than first realized once you're with somebody for over 3 years or so, right? How can you really know anybody until you spend a lot of time with them? Until you see them in all sorts of situations that may challenge your pre-conceived notion of who they are. And when you have to grapple with the question of whether you are truly compatible as a couple?

True. I was married for 35 years before we split up. We certainly weren't "walking away". Life changes people in unexpected ways.

@tnorman1236 Yes, I was married for over 17 years. After that ended I have had 2 serious relationships, each averaging around 3 years...I didn't live with either of the boyfriend/significant others...whatever name I should call them...haha. That must be my new measuring stick of reaching compatibility. Much shorter than I did when I was young and willing to tolerate more. I actually believed in the notion that opposites attract. I no longer feel that is a good basis for a relationship. I am a slow learner.

@tnorman1236 - I completely understand, and empathize with you... Some changes we can live with, others we cannot.

@mojo5501 - but at least you have figured out what did and did not work!

@Rustee Exactly right...better late than never!
