What would convince me that a particular religion was worth investigating? I have two quotations:

One from Cory Booker:
Before you speak to me about your religion, first show it to me in how you treat other people; before you tell me how much you love your God, show me in how much you love all His children; before you preach to me of your passion for your faith, teach me about it through your compassion for your neighbors. In the end, I'm not as interested in what you have to tell or sell as in how you choose to live and give.

and the other from Gandhi who says something like
Don't talk to me of miracles 2000 years ago, show me how your god lives through you.

The quote attributed to Booker is a good principle for evaluating people's walk vs their talk, but I no longer assume religion has anything to do with them being good if they are, either. I assume they are good in spite of their religious beliefs.

I had to tell a JW elder that I didn't believe the religion showed any sign of holy spirit at work in it.

After leaving the JW religion and having a look around, I came to the conclusion that holy spirit never came to any Christians anywhere and became an agnostic.

It’s impossible to expect someone to relive ‘your’ life. Might I post, or write a book containing a shitload of feelgood statements, then attribute them to a religion … when in reality, they came from family, friends, society and inside?

Very good quotations! But for me any religion is better forgetting than investigating...
