@literatehiker made some great points. Unfortunately on any site there’s going to be scammers. We have to be vigilant and not get caught up in fantasy.
If you suspect anyone report them to this group and the members can assist. You’ll become better at spotting them yourself as well.

Not yet.

Nigerian dating scammers work in large warehouses with phones and computers. They scam lonely singles in America, Canada and Western Europe. These operations earn millions of dollars. Hundreds of thousands of lonely people are left heartbroken and penniless each year.

Use Google image search if someone looks too handsome or beautiful. Often you find them on Scambuster websites.

I have been approached by 38 scammers on dating websites They are laughably easy to spot:

  1. Extremely gorgeous photos. Scammers steal photos from modeling websites and profiles from dating sites.

  2. Claim to have fallen in love with you immediately. Call me "an angel fallen from heaven."

  3. Poor command of the English language. Rarely capitalize the letter "i."

  4. Pressures you to immediately switch to instant messaging.

  5. Same sob story: wife died in a fiery car crash or ran off with his best friend.

  6. Says he is an American citizen who was born in Europe.

  7. Claims to live in a city near you, in my case Seattle.

  8. Temporarily working in West Africa oil fields as an engineer or missionary.

  9. Keeps up romantic pressure until SURPRISE! ... He was robbed at the airport/bus station/taxi and needs you to immediately wire him $5,000 so he can fly into your arms. Or his child needs emergency, lifesaving surgery.

Keeps it up until you run out of money. None got a penny out of me.

a few years back my cousin wanted me to loan him $150 to send some 'russian' gal... i told him if she actually did come here that i'd take them to las vegas to get married and he can keep the 150. 'she' ended up losing her wallet or something at the airport - similar to your #9. we never made it to vegas, lol

They didn't get money from me.

Nope. I did try feeding a conversation with a scammer. But he was banned before I could see what it was all about.

I have been messaged by several scammers who have tried to chat me up, but they tend to be pretty easy to spot, and I send them packing well before they ever get up to any actual scamming process.

I’ve skipped some sketchy looking posts.. But nothing personal. Maybe slammed, if not scammed 🙂
