I feel so naive. I just went to the Watchers Group and read some of the posts about scammers and several of those dudes contacted me over the last couple months and one I recognized as at least two different profiles.
Well, damn. Guess I need to pay attention more. They didn't and won't get very far with me so I guess they dropped out before I realized what was going on.
I don't want to go through life fretting every new friend but... damn.
That's absolutely no reason to feel naive. Many scammers are actually working for organisations which send out hundreds of thousands or even millions of messages and emails every month: they use a scattergun approach and just wait to see who replies, then sound you out to see if you're likely to fall for it or not - they haven't selected you especially for any reason and, as you say, they clearly rapidly realise you're too intelligent for them to continue trying. That's something to feel proud about!
I understand I have been reported in that group. I am no scammer. I have been a contributing member of agnostic.com for a year and am a member of the senate.
Just for the record
Just use common sense like you do, of course, in real life/answering the phone, etc.
It’s what they do. They have rooms of men sitting at computers in third world countries using stolen pics.
