So today's been infuriating. I worked for Sarasota county until very recently. About a month ago a male co-worker blocked me into a closet and wouldn't let me out until our boss came around the corner. I filed a sexual harassment claim against the coworker, knowing full well what an old boys network the county is and being aware I might get fired over it.
After I filed the claim my schedule was changed and many of my co-workers began avoiding me altogether. You know, the guy who watches porn on the clock, the guy who hits on all the women who get hired there and of course my boss who's had multiple affairs with his employees.
HR conducted their investigation and said since there were no witnesses it was unfounded. Two days later I was fired for causes "completely unrelated".
I was unsurprised and had an exit strategy ready. Unfortunately the lawyers I spoke to agreed this was nearly impossible to prove in court. OK whatever, moving along.
Today I heard that there's a county wide sexual harassment course thats mandatory for everyone to attend and that three more women had quit in the last week. I also got a letter from hr stating that they found no evidence of sexual harassment or retaliation in this case.
So. Much. Rage.
So many people just want me to shut up. I think I'll speak louder instead.
Time's Up Legal Defense Fund. Something tells me they would love to take on this case.
It's exactly what it's been set up for.
Thank you
@Blindbird Good luck! I truly hope you prevail. Please keep me posted.
Women no matter where we are, are held responsible for male inappropriate behavior. I get loud about it at my work. I write it up. But I'm union too, so I can't just be fired for writing up a male who thinks its ok to grab me and kiss me. When I wrote him up literally everyone at work told me, including my boyfriend, "hey, why didn't you just tell him to stop?" I'm like, "do I owe every fucking man on the planet a free pass????" The response, "oh I never thought of it that way".
THEN the global community WONDERS why women 'don't tell' and blame her for not coming out sooner about it, but when they do....this is what happens. Thing is, no matter what, tell or not, people expect females to accept it. One good christian lady on my fb account said about #MeToo "I like being called pretty; it's NOT sexual harassment". Fucking morons....
Yep. Those women are infuriating. I suspect they're the ones still stuck in the mindset that other women are the competition and whoever men "like" more are the winners. uncle Toms of feminism. But like I said, I knew there was a pretty good chance it'd cost me my job but I'm tired of putting up with stuff like this and I'm tired of other women having to put up with it too.
Class action lawsuit? I don't know the whats or the hows of lawyering, outside of Law and Order, but if you think others were also bullied or sexually harassed, that may be enough.
EDIT: And if he watches porn and it's illegal to use the computer for personal use, there'll be evidence of it. Everything is recorded by computers - if not by the actual computer, the activity will have a digital trace to it from the servers.
That's a very good point. Thank you
Ever wonder why having a union is vital to all employees? I here these kind of stories from so, many Americans it is so f'ing wrong! I would not shut p about it at all, punishing the victim is the conservative, fuck'em.
Ahh. That's the fun part. You don't join the union until you pass the 6mo. mark . Only two women have stayed and they're not the type to make a fuss. So "something" always happens before women get around to being union members.
What the hell???? That would get you arrested for kidnapping here. Who ever these people are that want you to shut up, screw them.
As long as the is no chance of harm to you I would go for it. Can the other people be contacted perhaps there is a way for all of you to work together. Be careful, talk to a good lawyer.
Yet another case of a woman's word against a man's, and the woman being ignored because what she has to say will shake up the status quo.
Rage is exactly the right emotion to be feeling. Yell at the top of your voice, and kick stuff too!
I am . I am also getting together with the other women who've been there to discuss our options.
@Blindbird Excellent. That way, you can kick a lot of stuff
