I'm going to brag on my daughter here for a minute, if you don't mind. After graduating High School at 16, she's kind of dragging out her college career, but that's okay. 2 years ago, she won the first place award in poetry at her university, and today she won the 2nd place award in creative non-fiction. I'm proud of her!

She was editor of the school literary magazine. So yes, some of her poems were in it.

So you should be. Winston Churchill didn't do much at school either, but he certainly turned out to be a great journalist, orator, historian and artist, with a prolific output. He also dabbled in building work, by the way.

Part of the reason it's taking her a while is that she has a double major (English and Biology), and one year a broken ankle made her drop some classes. Also, she took a year off after graduating High School.
Sounds great, congratulations! (And let me tell you, my son dragged out his college career for 2 years, but today he's a graphic designer and has a good job that he enjoys a lot).
