I get really pissed when I think about it and it happened generations ago. What could be more oppressive, more domineering and sick than making an eight-year-old kid jump to your wacky demands? In Catholic school, I think her name was Sister Virginal Urinal held up a little gadget that looked life a frog, “If I click this one time you get on your knees. If I click it twice you recite, 'God loves me, so I'll do whatever I'm told.'”

Sometimes the “ejaculation” or short prayer was in Latin. Click, click, “Omnia spritz, omnia glitz,” c'mon I was eight years old. I didn't understand the words but I knew they had to mean something.

Now that I'm an old man I look back at this brainwashing with utter contempt. I wonder if the French soldiers that heard the “click, click” at the WWI Battle of the Marne, with their captain clicking and blowing his whistle yelling “Over the top”, which meant you had to jump over the embankment and run into machine fire.

No wonder the Armed Forces want you to believe in nonsense.
