What do you think about "Medicare for All" or a single payer health system? Some estimates say it will cost 35 to 40 trillion over the the next ten years. But that's really not a scary number considering we already collectively spend 3.5 trillion per year on our current system when you add up medicare, medicaid, and the private market (see link 2). So it seems logical to me that we can add 28 million people to the system without incurring additional costs if the estimates are correct. See link 1 for uninsured citizens in 2017. See link 2 for total national healthcare expenditures in 2017. See link 3 for various claims discussed in politifact.

Note: No trolls please. I'm looking for constructive responses supported with facts.

Medicare for All makes me shiver. I invite you to do to your state's medicare site and slug your way through it.. Bring a lunch and a sleeping bag! Now multiply the complexity of a state like New York by 50 . There you go! Armageddon. I tried researching the number of insurance companies who currently serve just the State pf New york Medicare program.
No such luck.
I also profess to be too old and feeble to want to invest more of my precious life minutes to this subject, so let me just end my remarks with a little anekdote.
After the collaps of Germanz after WW2, all Germans were given DM 42. and sent on their way to go and remove the rubble and rebuild thir country. In 1952, Universal Healthcare was established. So, there is a model on how to build healthcare for all. Or we could look at the Canadiab model, the French model, even Korea's system.
But we, the US, will always be hobbled by too many interests and no common goal.
Is Bernie Sanders on this site? I would love to talk to him every time he speaks to emphatically about medicare for all.

@Bobby9 And your point is?

The financial aspect aside (which I realize is the gist of your post) .... the human aspect would be immeasurable. Imagine your doctor being able to write the medication he/she wants without having to worry if your insurance will cover it. Imagine being able to get the procedure that will save your life without having to consider how to pay for it. Imagine emergency rooms being saved for actual emergencies rather than uninsured people that have colds.

If you couple that with the monetary facts you’ve listed above, it’s almost negligent to NOT have universal coverage. But alas, politicians are bought by private sector insurance and will never lobby to change the way things are now.

AND the monetary cost listed is not a full appraisal by all. Sone see less cost and there are untold benefits monetarily through time. If sold a business perk, it would go through - imagine the costs of benefits a company would no longer absorb. The government has little trouble funding unending wars and maintaining a military budget larger thsn the next 5 countries combined - and it doesn't seem to keep us 5 times ahead (As a vet I approve if a mass reduction - we have two long borders with non hostile nations militarily). How many ex soldiers suffer non military illnesses? How many vets are homeless?

The hidden costs and benifits?
One benifit is an uninsured motorist will now be covered, will auto insurance adjust appropriately?
It works in so many countries can we find the best model and apply it here.
Jobs jobs jobs a medicare for all would employ alot off people to administer it properly. Good paying permanent jobs with the stimulus this gives an economy.
Everyone automatically becomes an organ donor when they enroll!
Costs would include people living longer so social security would have to be adjusted.
Employers would no longer have an insurance burden and workers injured could be treated without litigation.
Keep a payment option for those who wish to pay an extra premium and costs for private services.
Keep Politic's & parties away from the funds.
Include end of life care and burial costs for those in need.

I agree with all of this! Thanks for your insightful comment. 🙂
