A single variable study "proves," warmer workplaces improve women's productivity.
Nothing in the study mentions the FACT that women are often 1/2 naked: bare arms, legs, no socks, silly shoes, and low necklines.
Not controlling for clothing essentially negates the conclusions for workplace adjustments.
A single variable study would also prove that women and men are likely to not perform as well on cognitive tasks if exposed to rain in the workplace...the point being, physical comfort does make a difference, no matter if it is too cold, too hot, too wet, too dry, too etc. And those factors have all levels of variations...this study was done on college students...let's face it...younger, probably thinner, and dressed as young people do...it does not account for older populations as well as work suitable clothing...
Also, it is kind of insulting...it doesn't account for the common sense of most women: if you are cold, put on a sweater...I actually agree with Jacar on this one point...clothing adjustments negates this study...
Jacar you were arguing against wearing hijabs before. What is to be? Modesty or women being free to wear what they like?
Muslim women are not free to dress appropriately. Are you suggesting that women in the US are also oppressed? I'm with you.
2nd part: The sadness is that it is women who are enforcing this dress-code of discomfort. And yet, these women are blaming men for setting the temperature.
@Jacar Muslim women are free to dress as they choose, as are women in the west. I rarely wear heels and dress for the Northern EU country I live in. I am not American and can not comment on American's women's dress. I think there is much to be said for modest dress...but if a sister chooses to dress in any other manner, that is their choice.
[sarcasm font: ON] Tell us what we should wear, O wise male person, for we are silly and unable to properly dress ourselves! [sarcasm font: OFF]
They already do, that's why (according to the OP) women are often 1/2 naked.
Indeed. Aside from her weight, if it isn't absolutely perfect, a woman's choice of apparel is the number one thing upon which to judge her. Men even use it as an excuse to attack her physically. I vote that from now on we all just wear sweatshirts and sweatpants everywhere we go... and steel-toed boots.
@Deb57 I can do that... and think of the $$$$$ I would save!
Being cold because of how one is dressed, and they complaining that it is too cold in the room, is silly.
If everyone agrees to wear swimwear, then it will be easier to agree on the correct temperature.
@Jacar
Or perhaps it's the men who are being silly for wearing layers and then cranking the temperature down to subzero to accommodate themselves. It's a matter of perspective. Always blaming women for every little dang thing, however, is a matter of masculine egocentricity.
