I have a reasonable level of confidence that the nature of the tension caused as a result of political differences is similar to that of religious differences. My contention has always been that our goal of optimizing a society is unavoidable, thereby validating the existence of political differences. Religion, on the other hand, deals with nonsensical issues. The phenomenon of interpersonal tension and division caused by beliefs in the supernatural is akin to unnecessarily pouring garbage onto a pre-existing pile of unavoidable, but understandable, political garbage. Thoughts?
