I tried to post this and kept hitting wrong button. Thinking of my dad. I only had 10 years as had not seen him since I was 8
At 28 we reunited because I feltnit was selfish and stupid to cut him off like my family had. I treasure that time. He died in 1996 just before my daughter was born. I am tight with my step sister, as I had no siblings. Here are a few photos. The pictures are in Miami or the Keys

It's nice that you decided to reconnect with your dad. I'm sure it meant a lot to him.
Everyone has struggles in their life and many may never even be known to others. I don't know the reasons he was cut off by the rest of your family, but maybe this was true for your dad.
Both of your lives were much richer because you were able to put things in the right perspective.

He was a good guy. There was so much judgement back then. When there are rifts like that, who knows about being right and him wrong. zhe was very passionate. His aunt was the secretary for the House of David in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He worked on the train th er e when a teenager and they just sc t thought he was below her. I was glad we did too.
