Unfortunately, corruption is a part of most governments. We are no different. Our history is rife with examples of corruption; Lincoln & Colfacx County Wars, Teapot Dome scandal, the Robber Barons, etc.. It's always been there, just not always as openly practiced as it is today. You are correct to be concerned and cynical given this kleptocracy in Washington today.
