Who's an introvert and likes mountains? πŸ˜€

"Extroverts Prefer Plains, Introverts Like Mountains. People who live in mountainous U.S. states are more introverted than their fellow Americans in the flatter states. That curious link between topography and personality is proposed by a recent article in the Journal of Research in Personality."

..the warn, ancient hills of Appalachia … I think I’m in love πŸ™‚

This guy right here πŸ– I moved to the plains for college and did find the area to be much more densely populated n sociable. I liked how windy it was and how much of the sky you could see for stars, but I missed the scenery, landmarks and perspective of the mountains. The isolation of the mountains is also responsible for a lot of the Appalachian accent and antiquated manner of speaking around here. Appalachian English was so isolated and remained so unchanged that it’s currently the oldest dialect of English still spoken; Shakespearean scholars come here to study the way we talk because it’s the closest to what it would have been in Willy Shakes’ day.

Similar situation in the mountainous areas of New Mexico. Modern roads didn’t get built until the late 40’s-50’s.
The Spanish spoken there is similar to what was spoken in Spain 400 years ago

I'll wait for follow up studies, this sounds little better than Astrology.

@Agnieszka Even if this correlation is real and not a statistical artifact, doubt this is of any practical use since individual variation is going to be all over the map. That's why I compared it to Astrology, people will immediately take it personally. I don't think that's how psychology works. Thanks for the link.

@Agnieszka Psychology is certainly more scientific than astrology, won't argue that. My point is that people love to think in stereotypes about groups, even though no matter how accurate the group stereotype is, it's easily trumped by individual variation. And this sort of story is often presented in the news in such a way as to reinforce this kind of fuzzy thinking. "I'm an introvert who loves mountains" is no more scientific than "I'm a Scorpio who loves sex." Or worse, "I love the mountains, so I must be an introvert!" Um, no. I love science, blog about it regularly; but pop science is a whole different thing. And the media rarely, if ever, makes the distinction.

Hmm - I’m a flaming introvert and bought a home at 6,000’ - the continental divide is visible from my back porch.
But I work in North Dakota. πŸ€”

@Agnieszka
For a second I thought I might be an ambivert.
But I scurried back to my room and the feeling passed awayπŸ™‚
