Lunching in the Bay Horse pub, Heighington, near Darlington.
If it looks a bit empty, it's because all the idiots are lunching outside in the garden, in 31 degree heat. We're dining in air-conditioned comfort!!

Probably they get 4 hot days a year & want to savor it.

Now 35 degrees in the garden. A lot cooler indoors. Hence the expression "Al ftesco", meaning "Indoors, in the cool" often misunderstood to mean in fresh air.

"31 degree heat..."

I realize the metric system makes more sense. It's logical that water should freeze at zero and boil at 100.

And yet that doesn't stop me thinking that 72 is a nice, comfortable temperature. 😐

31 centigrade is 87 fahrenheit, not 72!
... and now it's 35, with 65% humidity. Bearable, but not when one is lunching!

@Petter It was just an example of how the thought process works. For instance, we had 107F heat index here last week, which, in C, would be boiling us in our skins...

You’ve got to understand that we are not conditioned for this sort of heat in the UK...we go berserk in hot sunshine because we get so little of it!

@Paul4747 When I left home (in Spain) last week it was 40 degrees, and I live only 150 yards from the sea. As soon as I drove inland it became 43/44 degrees. (111 Fahrenheit)
It's quite normal for us to be in "above blood heat" temperatures, but it's a novel experience for people in UK even to get close to it.

@Marionville You may go berserk with me anytime!! 🤣😅😂

@Petter if you manage to cross the Irish Sea I’ll go berserk and buy you a great Irish lunch!

@Marionville Boiled bacon and cabbage? 🤣

@Petter Oh..no ...we are a 21st century lot over here as far as culinary matters go at least...some really great restaurants in N.Ireland now!

@Marionville .... but I LIKE boiled bacon and canbage! 😁😁😋😋

@Petter. I’m sure we could drag one out of last century especially for you! 😂
