Just had a visit from a couple JWs. Good times! They talked about their favorite book, I mentioned a number of mine (dropped a few names - Richard Dawkins, Chris Hitchens, Michael Schermer, Reza Aslan). They tried saying Christopher Columbus wanted to sail around the globe - ffs, that's been disproven for how long now? They tried telling me that whenever the bible's been examined through a scientific lens, science has supported, and that I could verify that with my own research (which was when Dawkins and Hitchens came up). Never swore or had to say I'm agnostic - saying heaven was a manmade construct may have done that for me. Such an invigorating discussion, feeling so fucking blessed!

You're far more patient than most of us! I'll usually just open with "I have one question..." (They get all gooey with excitement!) Then.."What exactly gives you the right to disturb my privacy with your religious babble?" (Door closes firmly.)

I think they welcome your reaction - it supports their sense of a crusade. One of the guys at my door kept wanting to read passages, then I'd present the basis on which the passage was flawed. They tried to claim that science supports the bible; I countered by saying I have 3 sources that all say the opposite: Christpher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, and Michael Schermer. Don't think they appreciated that I acknowledged the existence of Jesus, but denied his role in their faith. No, I don't want to flatly turn them away; I want to invite them to something I hope they find more troubling.

@chalupacabre Well, I see your point....but....they really have no right to invade my privacy, uninvited and unwelcome. I said this to my Witness friend once and she stopped cold, saying "I never, EVER thought of that." Well....good! Now she has.

I would find doing the following uncomfortable and dangerous and a good way to get arrested, but: the last time (years now, news travels and memories last) the JW's stopped at my nephew's, he answered in the nude.

Yeah, my son's 12 and is constantly having friends over, so that isn't an option. 😆 He was in a room near the front door and said he enjoyed our conversation.
