It is a good analogy BUT. A referendum is a referendum, people need to understand that casting a vote is serious business.
And it should not be reversed, other way you can just "pretend you can't do the fish until the client change his/her mind".

The State took the decision of Brexit, now they have to deal with it. Maybe they can make a new one to rejoin EU after...

Imagine you want the brexit, you campaigned for it, you spend time and resources, you won, and them some guys screw it up, then revote and change decisions...

The same could be done for the other side, vote to stay, open the borders, sign a lot of economic bad treaties, make people angry and then ask for a new vote...

I personally think Brexit was a mistake, but a referendum should not be treated so lightly. If the direct will of the people (even a misguided as it was) is not respected, then you can say the parliament is just pretending to listen...

There was no democratic mandate for a referendum in the first place, that is the irony of the whole sorry business. The referendum was called by Cameron because he wanted to appease his back benches who could see Nigel Farage taking votes from the Tories, and they were afraid of losing their seats. Apart from that it’s a very clever analogy for Brexit!

Love your analogy. I see that quite often on ballot initiatives in the US. The wording is simple, but the possible outcomes seldom match what the voters thought they were voting for.
