I'm not going to lie, but this is a rough read. I've been reading it off and on, and I'm only done with chapter 1, but it's tedious and it seems Marx could have severely condensed his thoughts and still gotten his points across because there is a lot of repeating it seems. It's a lot of words to say little and the same thing. Hopefully it's just because it's chapter 1. It's worse than reading a school textbook.
US crony style capitalism = exploitation. americans have been brainwashed into believing that socialism = venezuela. they don't have a clue that the scandinavians have a much better standard of living with what the neo-conservatives consider socialism.
Capitalism is a great motivator for generating capital and goods. Unfortunately, it is inherently corrupt. It is a system based on competition and pits those who have with the have-nots.
Socialism recognizes that all human beings have inherently equal value and does not create social classes. It is based on co-operation.
In my personal opinion, the ideal system will be a hybrid of both; a well regulated capitalism to generate prosperity without exploiting anyone and will have a good socialist safety net and social services.
On the Scandinavian model? I think some of the Nordic countries have the right balance of Social Democracy and Capitalism...it’s probably why their citizens top the Happiness indices every year.
