There’s a very knowledgeable people who are atheist. But here’s my take on it; since God is a construct of man and there is no scientific evidence that those constructs exist in reality, have zero belief that a deity exists. Nobody likes to be called denigrating names. Darrow is being a butt head. (Hypocrisy intended)

But here’s my question if something doesn’t actually exist can you be ignorant of it?

First you will have to provide unassailable, scientific proof that it does not exist, then you can address the ignorance question. Also, an Agnostic does not necessarily believe that a god as modeled by the christian idiots may exist, an Agnostic may see the possibility of a force, ghost in the machine . . . Einstein did not believe in a "personal god", which is an absurd notion in my view.

"The most beautiful and most profound experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms - this knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness."
( Albert Einstein - The Merging of Spirit and Science)

@Archeus_Lore sure, i am just glad you express your opinion in a none insulting way. I think the quote that was posted at the top is a bit mean spirited. To your point: nobody has to have unassailable proof to be fundamentally sure, only to convince others who are skeptical and need unassailable proof. People will often assail it anyway. Haha. I know enough about Neurology to convince me.

The beginning of wisdom is realizing just how much you do not know . . .

@Archeus_Lore I am only a person, and only as wise as i am. But the science says seems to support the ignorance is bliss. And since wisdom is the knowledge of how to be happy. ... i am not trying to convince you. I am well aware of the tenants of agnosticism and atheism. But i am glad if you are wise, and glad that you are happy with your ideology. I think it is likely that we are parsing words more than disagreeing.

Which is why I am an agnostic atheist. I do not claim to "know" there are no gods; but, I do not believe any exist. And, there are very few atheists who are so bold as to claim that they have that knowledge.

@NoPlanetB Yes, evidence abounds that specific, man-made, gods are imaginary and cannot exist. One only needs to read the Bible with an open mind to see that the “one god” described it in cannot exist—it is too contradictory. And, it is easy to see how other gods were created by humans.

However, we do not have all the knowledge of the universe, or what might be outside our universe.

I absolutely do not believe there are any gods; but I accept that I do not possess all knowledge; and I cannot "know" that there is no being inside, or outside, our universe, that we would call a god.

If one claims that they know there is no god, of any kind, then it is upon them to provide evidence. Just as it is upon the person making the claim that one does exist to provide evidence.

Science certainly shows us that there is no evidence for any gods, and that no god is necessary for the universe to behave as it does; but I have not come across any scientist who claims to know that none exist.

Do you know what the difference between an athiest and an agnostic is? An athiest knows when someone is lying to them. 😉

I tend to disagree. A good liar can fool almost anyone (Or simply Lincolnize the idea). I know what you mean. There are no gods with any prove. And if one comes along, i won't believe it - the more logical conclusion would be a superior being. I have no expectations of seeing one of those either.

@Beowulfsfriend I probably should have been more specific about the confines of the lies we know we're being told, but figured the labeles athiest and agnostic were self limiting enough
