-Not just Catholics. Protestant Reformation brought on by printing press during so-called Age of Reason had all contending religions deeply involved in witch burnings, huge battles, mass hangings, unspeakable tortures, mass killings of civilians. The Reformation wiped out one third of the population of Germany and huge percentages in all other Euro and British nations. Rise of Islam similar, of course.
