I don't know if what I'm going to describe happens in your neck of the woods, but every late summer in lower Delaware, we're inundated with fruit flies! One year, it was so bad, we had to stay in a hotel while the house was "bombed". That was the year I made the critical mistake of bringing a bushel of pears from one of our fruit trees into the house! This year, for the first time, the fruit flies are virtually absent. We have seen a few, but nothing like in years past. Any thoughts on why the fruit flies are scarce this season? For our parts, we've done nothing differently. We still wash our bananas before setting them out, and we keep any potential fruit fly treats washed and under wraps.

Some positive news: I've been letting the milkweed grow in my front yard for years now. It reseeds itself. The Monarch Butterflies have found it, and I saw Monarchs hanging around all summer. And after all these years my neighbors have given up reporting me to the city for "weeds".

THANK YOU! I thought I was going crazy! I had some bananas in here last week but threw away the last two 4-5 days ago. But I have been seeing fruit flies in my house for the past few days and couldn't figure out why. I buy bananas all year... What was it about this batch? Was it even the bananas? I never wash bananas... I've never even heard of doing that.
