We get arguments from religious people all the time who don’t know how the universe began, so it has to be their god they say. I have this stamp with my return address on it that I use when I mail something. I bought this thing over 25 years ago when I used to mail checks to pay bills. In all this time, I’ve never added ink yet it still works. I used it yesterday. I have no idea how it could work. Should I attribute it to the ink fairy? It makes just as much sense to me.

God of the gaps argument is infuriating.

Probably because they made stamp ink with some sort of radioactive, cancer inducing demon blood 25 years ago.

IMO rationally no one should argue over the existence of God, either pro or con. When you say that God created all this, all you’re actually saying is that “all of this” is a profound mystery that can not be understood in human terms.

The ink stamp analogy falls short IMO.

Wrong, they're saying that a creature that no one has ever seen any evidence of is the creator of everything. Non existent beings don't create things. That's my point. There are lots of mysteries, but made up answers just keep us from searching for real answers, be it a stamp or a universe.

@Eazyduzzit I agree that some people make up answers that are nothing but fancy. Those are the ones most apt to argue with you, and in regards to them your analogy is good.

IMO there are deeply religious people who do not argue. If they refer to God, they are not talking about some mythical being, but about something else—the ground of all being maybe.

“My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind." Albert Einstein

The Ink Fairy, the younger sibling of the Tooth Fairy, has taken a liking to you. You are so blessed and should be so thankful. If you want this to continue you must contact my friend, a Nigerian Prince so he can light special candles for you. Do so soon, my friend, and all will be right with your world.

What's his address? I have checkbook in hand.
