Isn't it interesting that the birthplace of the world's three most prominent religions, Judaism, Christianity and Moslemism, must be one of the most "godforsaken" regions on earth.
Mainly geographically in the sense the 3 religions originate from the same area. However a cultural element is also relevant when they start competing with each other, all claiming to be the one and only true faith.
I’m not sure I understand what you mean by geographically godforsaken in the context you have presented it. To me, geographically godforsaken would be descriptive of the landscape and climate, which would be a subjective observation. Having spent a bit of time in that part of the world myself, I found the climate, and the landscape, most agreeable.
I can understand your reasoning from a cultural perspective, through a modern day lens, although it hasn’t always been the case. Some of the world’s brightest civilisations have arisen in that region.
It was lush with trees at one time. Humans destroyed the forests and over farmed. Just like we do now. We haven't learned much, have we. Kill the environment and then blame supernatural forces for plagues and pests once the trees have been razed and the land has been devastated.
And man said "Let there be wishful thinking and there was God."
