I'd like to shine some light on singers from the past who, I feel, are woefully underrated! The first one that comes to mind is Eddie Fisher. A contemporary of Sinatra's, Mr. Fisher had (my opinion, so don't get your bowels in an uproar!) the far superior voice and delivery, but was seldom credited in this manner. Another male singer who didn't get as much credit as he deserved is John Gary. His crystal clear falsetto and his resonant base notes were second to none. The rest of you old coots want to put your two cents in? 🙂

Two of the whitest most souless singers ever. Great voices don't always make great singers, except maybe in opera. Music is about feeling not just technique.

@Winkiedink54 Agree. Folks like what they like, but as a musician, I am going to look at it a little differently. Whatever kind of music moves or touches people is fine with me.

Remember both of them

I’m afraid when it comes to our favourite singers, it’s not about technical excellence, but a completely subjective “something “ that appeals to us as individuals. I agree that the two singers you have highlighted both have superb voices, and I have recordings of both of them in my collection. Good though they undoubtedly are however, I would never place them on a list of my top ten singers, because as an individual, others’ voices move me more. Mr Sinatra would be on my list of favourites, his voice plus his unique phrasing and impeccable timing playing a part in that appeal.
