Teen Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of Student That Dozens Filmed, Shared On Social Media

An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged in the stabbing death this week in New York of Khaseen Morris, who died surrounded by a crowd of students taking cellphone video of the attack as he bled out on the ground.

Tyler Flach was charged with second-degree murder and was arraigned in court on Thursday, according to Nassau County police. He pleaded not guilty to killing Morris, a 16-year-old senior at Oceanside High School, during an after-school fight that broke out over a girl. Morris later died in a hospital.

As Morris lay in the parking lot of a strip mall pizzeria in Oceanside, N.Y. — hemorrhaging blood from a stab wound in the chest — police estimate somewhere between 50 and 70 kids stood by and failed to call for help. Many filmed the violent scene, uploading videos to social media sites.

This reminded me of the final episode of “Seinfeld” where Jerry and his cohorts stood by watching, and of course making jokes, while a victim of assault (played by the late John Pinette) was being attacked. They were all given one year in prison for not intervening.

Look how far we’ve come.

Years ago, I remember seeing a teenage girl in a parking lot wearing a shirt that had a mock “Nike” logo with the words “JUST DO ME!” printed in huge letters on the front. She was surrounded by at least 6 teenage boys, who, no doubt, wanted to fulfill hers t-shirt’s demands. Years after that, I remember seeing another teenage girl with the words “I Don’t Care” printed on her t-shirt. And now today, we have people, not only, embracing disgraceful monikers like “Deplorable” without shame, but glorifying in it with t-shirts that read “Adorable Deplorable”.

Religion is dying, but it’s indoctrination and influence to perpetuate self-rejection is thriving. Have people lost self-respect and self-esteem to the point that we just don't care and have doomed ourselves as a society?
