I don't know that the directors and producers went so deep as to make a political statement. What screamed out to me in the movie was the anti-bullying message. But, just like any painting or other work of art, there will be a zillion different reactions and explanations of it.

As an aside, and I wonder if anyone else noticed, the two flaws that I found in the movie which I thought was very good. First, although it may have been intentional, there was no way to determine when he was being delusional and what was reality. The relationship with his neighbor for instance. Maybe it was a way to show that a person with mental illness goes in and out of reality.

Second was the age difference between the Joker and Bruce Wayne.
If we are to base it off the television show, their ages were not so disparate. All that was necessary was to make young Bruce Wayne a little older. The way it stands in the movie, by the time Bruce Wayne became Batman the Joker would have been too old to do anything to him in my opinion.

Good article find though.

I'm beginning an attempt to look at the credibility of sources referenced on this site. There are a lot of references to videos, articles, magazines, and such, many of which are little more than rants by individuals that have opinions, but no viable credibility. So here is the scoop on truthdig.com.

MISSION
Truthdig, founded in 2005 by Publisher Zuade Kaufman and Editor in Chief Robert Scheer, is dedicated to reporting on current issues that are insufficiently covered by mainstream media. The website’s mission is to dig beneath the headlines, provide expert reporting and commentary from a progressive point of view and offer an outlet for original work by exceptional journalists.
Truthdig’s team is composed of writers and editors who have worked for The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, the New York Daily News and other major publications. Guiding the staff is Robert Scheer, an award-winning journalist with more than 50 years’ experience.

Unlike at most media companies, ads and the income they produce do not play a big role in Truthdig’s operation. The site is not influenced by advertisers or shareholders and is not controlled by any outside entity. This independence gives us great freedom and great responsibility.

Once again good choice.
