A discussion on another forum tonight got me wondering how Christians might deal with irrefutable evidence that Jesus of Nazareth was not an historical figure. I'm not suggesting that is the case. I suspect Jesus the man did exist. But even if you could prove he did not exist as a human being, I'm not sure that would be the end of the Christian religion. After all, Paul (who I see as the real founder of Christianity) never met the human Jesus and didn't have much need of him. What do you think?

Ironically, Christianity does not need Jesus. You can take him off the cross anytime and the idea will remain. It’s the message, not the man.

Indeed, as you say, Paul was the real creator of Christianity. If left to James and his cronies in Jerusalem it would have remained another Jewish cult and faded into obscurity like The Judean People’s Front!

All Christian doctrine comes from the later centuries of Church ideology and praxis which are built on Paul’s mission.

Yes, Christians are actually Paulists and they don't even know it.

Yes Paul was the creator of the Bible and had as much to say about hell as in heaven.

One story the Hindi tell me often, that makes good sense. Is Jesus left Israel at age 13 for India and return back at age 30. How else was Jesus so knowledgeable about similar stories as the Hindus mixed in with Judaism, to come out with a new improve Religion for its time.

@Castlepaloma Because of trade routes. There was no practical reason for a Judean C1st carpenter, at the age of 13(!) to go to India and return at 30.

Who did he go with? What was this a mission?

It’s even more vague than preaching in Galilee.

Sounds like India wanting a piece of the Christian dollar!

@Geoffrey51 - May I suggest that you read a copy of "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal". Even as satire it probably portrays as much "truth" as any religious text or doctrine and chronicles the travels of the Jesus character throughout India, Tibet, and the far east...

Unfortunately, it seems likely your right.

You can indisputably prove many portions of the bible wrong. Christians still cling to it.

I think it will take the discovery of extraterrestrial life to finish off all of today's die hard bible boots. Glad they are naturally dying off.

Even Stalin, Hitler, and Mussolini are still worshipped by many!

History is written by those who own and survived those too weak to fight back!!
