Although I do like some of my generations music, I'm still speechless (in a bad way) when listening to certain popular songs. Like "Stupid Hoe" by Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus' strange music videos. Lol. Any Millennial's thoughts on our generations music? Thanks!

I mostly avoid new pop, although there are some exceptions that I’ve come around on. Mostly I think the ridiculousness is a product of being very difficult to write a song or create an image that seems original in any way. You’ve almost gotta throw a bunch of random shit at the wall n see what sticks. Mumble rap is one of the most annoying products of our generation, but I guess that’s the standard energy level when you grow up robotrippin on ‘tussin.

Nikki started as a legit rapper I think, but something about her commercialized repertoire is too plastic for me. Miley’s a weird chick. I hated what her and all the Disney age of pop stars were doing to music until I realized it wasn’t them. They’re victims. It’s Disney and clearchannel (the company that programs 90+% of American radio) that’s abusing a bunch of kids until they turn crazy for public amusement. I have more respect for her now that I realized that. She’s just doing whatever the fuck she wants now that she’s grown, after a really strange childhood. Not my thing to listen to but whatever, I’m in favor of people being as weird as they like.

Beiber and Kanye are straight ignorant assholes. I’m sure some amount of talent is buried in there somewhere, but I can’t hear it over the sounds of their personality flatulence. Even though I’ve lightened up in my hatred for pop a lot over the last decade I still don’t consider current pop “my generation’s music.” It’s more like “my generation’s lowest common denominator.”
