I've seen a couple discussions arising around "spirituality" here lately. I find that topic invigorating and ... forgive the word choice... enlightening.
I have made the point that prominent atheists use or have used the term freely in non-religious terms.
Many of our community get aggravated by the use of the term and I myself did, very aggressively aggravated, until a few short years ago.
My BASELINE definition comes from a professor at Georgetown University and it is quite broad. I know how I take it but others may feel very differently:
"Spirituality is about the relationship between ourselves and something larger."
How do YOU feel about spirituality? What are your thoughts?
I think spirituality is not religious. For me it could mean deep admiration for nature, the cosmos, music, creativity, or any activity by which an individual becomes excited and passionate.
I had an experience of being questioned critically by a friend when I spoke about being spiritual. It amazed me to learn that person's perception of spiritual was more like saying religious, pseudo-scientific, or new-age-y.
