Maybe the difference between Agnostic & Atheist is the same as "I don't know" vs. "I don't care"?

As a staunch atheist I can tell you from my perspective that, I do care because it is important to me to articulate, all the who, what, how, when, and why's that bring clarity to any viewpoint. To the atheist within me the idea of a god is appalling, it would actually make more sense to me that we and our universe were a test tube experiment where a scientist in a greater macro world was monitoring our evolution then the idea of a deity. (and I don't entertain the idea of the scientist in the macro world as viable) Belief in a supreme being that embodies human needs and emotions is the obvious construct of an uneducated people.

I meant, "I don'tcare" as in, I do not worry about supreme fairy beings.

I think for most people in the West (maybe not southern USA) that the question of god is irrelevant. They get on with their lives not even pondering the question as a lifestyle choice.

From my stance, generally atheists do know due to the rigour with which they defend their position. Agnostics the jury is out and possibly don’t care anyway.

I disagree. Agostics say, "I don't know." Athiests say, "I have no evidence therefore I go to the default conclusion there is no such thing."

I don't know and I don't care...😂😂😂

For me "I don't know" summarizes agnostic okay. But I'm not sure "I don't care" really captures the meaning of atheist as well.

As in, I do not care about sky fairies........

Many Atheists care very much that God’s don’t exist as much as many religious people do care that god exists!

There seems to be a lot of defending positions on both sides!

@Geoffrey51 "nothing" requires no defense.......

Agnostic is I don't know. Apathiest is I don't care. Atheist is I don't believe.

2

I wouldn't think that "I don't care" is how I view my own atheism. But rather, If I were in any sense questioning a position (not if there are gods or not), then either of these responses apply.

I DO care. A great deal, about not having gods to muck up my life.

In other words, it's a nice analogy, but not quite linear. Ah, I see WilliamFleming succinctly says the same thing.

1

That could very well be. If a person is not searching for answers either their mind is made up or they simply don’t care.

Bingo..... give the little lady a cupie doll.

I like this analogy, an excellent starting point for discussion.
