Only now do we understand the true cruelty of Trump’s family separation. The administration has taken at least 5,460 children from their parents. That is a stain on Mr. Trump, on the government he leads and on America.

“Over the past few decades, the number of imprisoned parents in the U.S. has skyrocketed. From 1991 to 2007, it jumped by more than 357,000. Today,[2018] more than half of the 2.2 million people in the nation’s prisons and jails are parents of minor children.”

I’m not saying it’s right in the case of illegal immigrants, but that 5460 children must be compared to the millions of children across the US who have been taken from their parents over the years, and before Trump was elected.

Those who enter the country illegally have, after all, broken the law. If laws are going to be enforced people have to be charged and jailed. The alternative is simply to open the borders to all comers. To establish that policy would require legislative action. I don’t see politicians moving in that direction.

A more humane method would be some kind of family holding camp, but that might grow to gargantuan size and could become very expensive. Is it fair to provide food and housing to illegal immigrants and not to citizens in need?

Some positive suggestions would be better than Trump bashing. Here’s a balanced article on the current state of affairs:

[usatoday.com]

Yes that all sounds very sane and logical until you see the pictures of babies in dirty diapers crying in cages for their mothers... or parents completely devastated by the loss of their children. Here's a suggestion: Why don't we just disassemble the Statue of Liberty and chuck it into the Atlantic. It's ceased to have any meaning. And as for Trump, he deserves no respect from anyone. He's humiliated this country by his stupidity and arrogance and self-serving behavior.

"Is it fair to provide food and housing to illegal immigrants and not to citizens in need?" Why is this a binary choice? Starving people, no matter who they are, should be fed, clothed and cared for. The government always finds money to start unnecessary wars. Let's take that money to feed hungry people this week and bomb some random country next week

@TheoryNumber3 Do You favor open borders? I’m not sure you even read what I wrote. What is it that sounds sane and logical? And did you read the last article that I cited?

We already have social programs for feeding hungry people. Open the border and offer free food and shelter and you will see an influx of millions of immigrants.

Something tells me that this whole issue is just one more way of heaping scorn on DT, and nothing else. If you are so full of pity and indignation over the thousands of immigrant children, why do you ignore the millions of others that I reference?

Evil is as evil does. We deserve what ever shame is thrown our way. I have never been proud of our country because of our over the top hypocrisy, but this is unforgivable.

tRump doesn’t give a shit. Neither does Sessions, Miller. The architects and enforcers are actually happy about this.

They don’t start “giving a shit” unless 1) they have to pay for it, or 2) it affects their own family. It’s like near-sighted politicians who disdain LGBTQ members... until one of their own children happen to be one of them. THEN... they get a “broader vision” of humanity.

We need politicians who “see” beyond their own immediate selves, who “care” amount humanity as a whole. Just sayin’

Exactly. No empathy at all for other people's plights. Mean as snakes
