To the surviving people of Palestine,

I am truly so very sorry that you, your families, your neighbors, and your country suffer so as a brutal slaughter is waged across your land. I have tried to remain informed and active politically so that I could do whatever I can to help prevent my country from inflicting further such tragedies on others. As you might imagine, sometimes I too feel very helpless in this regard. You all have done much to remind me that sometimes courage can be as simple a thing as to just keep moving forward. And for that, you have my sincere respect, admiration, and gratitude. Please forgive us for not doing more to protect you.

To the dead, there is nothing I can say to lessen the pain. You are missed.

Why are we not fighting as hard for the Native Americans right here at home? We have occupied their land for the last 300 years.

You are not wrong. Our genocide against the indigenous of this continent was largely accomplished. The genocide in Palestine is ongoing.

@WilliamCharles
It is hard to understand why people care about issues so far away while not paying as much attention to burning issues at home. We have so many issues that one lifetime is not enough. We would not do that in the family - ignore home and start doing charity outside. When our house is burning, we take care of that fire first.

There are tons of wrongs in the world, The list is limitless but there are only a few resources. It would make sense to me to take care of our home first. Children are dying here in the U.S. also.

@St-Sinner

You seem to exist largely as a gadfly. You rarely offer anything of merit on my posts and I don't see much original content by you either. Whatever floats your boat. What my government does to bankroll murder and oppression globally is a domestic issue.

We'd certainly have more funds for programs for our own citizens if Israel had to learn to murder on its own dime. Hell... might even get them to stop.

@WilliamCharles
On the totem-pole of issues, is Palestine high up there for us to care while ignoring the issues at home?

Disagreeing with you does not make my point less valid. Do I not have a point? We have to question a lot of long held conventions. I have also seen people supporting communism, wearing the head scarf that Yasser Arafat used to wear right here in the U.S. but not one would be willing live in the socialist or Palestine lands for a day. Satellite sympathy is very easy.

@St-Sinner

You mischaracterize so much, such as "ignoring issues at home." Your bullshit is barely worth addressing.

What's even easier than satellite "sympathy" for many (though it is more accurately described as "empathy" ) is turning on their back entirely on the suffering of others, largely as I have already pointed out as a result of US policy.

SILENCE = ASSENT

You pick whatever battles have meaning and urgency for yourself. You'll forgive me if I choose to do likewise.
