A high income is a badge of success in many countries, but in Sweden a deep-rooted cultural code called Jantelagen stops many from talking about it.
What have we done to ourselves in the United States folks?
I haven’t heard anyone in the US bragging about their money —maybe a few politicians, but not people.
I see though that Wikipedia has taken to giving the net worth of celebrities. I don’t know why.
I do not know why you have not noticed the adoration of wealth in the U.S. - the most capitalist country where the rich and famous are glamorized, someone like Kim Kardashain can be a billionaire, we have bumper stickers like ... If you are so smart, why aren't you rich?", where the capital controls the strings of power in Washington DC.
@St-Sinner True, we have that culture, but on a personal level I think it is still impolite in the extreme to talk about your wealth, except maybe with a close friend.
