"The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e., the reality of experience) true and false (i.e., the standards of thought) no longer exists.
HANNAH ARENDT, The Origins of Totalitarianism
From my observation and experience
"People believe what they want to believe, not necessarily what is truth"
The disturbing thing is that we all think that our particular opinions are true. If there get to be enough people who are firmly convinced that life on earth is in jeopardy, they’ll get together and throw away our liberties and submit to tyranny, believing that that is the only way to survive.
Already we are seeing calls for guerrilla warfare and for the destruction of capitalism.
