These days I check my online dating profiles for the same reason I check the back of my fridge. Legit question: do these things ever actually work?

Why is it that I always seem to connect more through conversations with guys who live far away from me. Even if I feel something 'nice' developing, the distance itself negates the possibility of a real and meaningful relationship. And yes, I have tried without success to meet/find guys around my age group to connect with. Met a dead end so far. What am I doing so wrong?
Guess I'm pretty skeptical about long distance relationships because I've seen so many crashing after a while.

I got a Great penpal from POF, we sometimes "talked" 6-8-10 times a day. it went on for a couple years, he just acquired a Model T to restore & then got diagnosed with lung cancer, he was 81, passed in less than a year. We only lived about 4 hours apart, once in awhile one or the other of us would hint that we should meet, (never at the same time!). But we both knew that if we met & it was "meh" we would lose something special. I miss him!

Sometimes connections grow into something special and yet a bit indefinable. What you shared was beautiful!

I don't think of those sites as dating sites, I think of them as introduction services. All you can expect is a minimal interaction with people, the rest is in your hands.

Sometimes, yes. I've had a couple very good connections from online. But it can take monumental fortitude, and more patience than many of us have, for it to happen.

Feel the same after sifting through half baked conversations that fizzle out after a bit, people who don't keep up and of course the fake profiles. Nowadays I just enjoy a good post and try to understand a viewpoint...

I don't think a deeper connection is possible online because everyone has too many options and too little time.

My last relationship was from a dating website. However, I found out he was just looking for someone to be with until his ex, with whom he had been fighting, decided to come back to him. 41/2 months, then suddenly nothing. The guy I dated before that, it turned out, was married. A few alcoholics wandered in and out before that. At my age, pickings are slim indeed.

Yep, I've been a rebound guy and I've attracted crazy women. And none of the women who seem sane and live nearby seem interested in little old me.

@JayOleck38 Aww...I'm sorry. Yes, it's hard to find a sane one who is spirited, interesting and attractive, lol!

@Organist1 Just one of my many reasons I desire to move closer to Seattle. More theater (I'm on our community theater's shit list....and willingly so.) More girls my age, closer to my nephew and niece. I love my town, but I've been here too long.

@JayOleck38 I've heard Seattle is a great city. I'm in the northeast, so I wouldn't know.

@Organist1 It's a nice city. I can wander around Pike Place Market for hours. Rents are really high there even if you have a section 8 (disability) voucher. But I'm a small town boy at heart. There are some nice towns on this side of the Sound I have my eye on.

@JayOleck38 I hope you find a nice one. I must admit, I like the peacefulness of a small town, too.

@Organist1 I've got my eye on a few places. Trouble is there are people more disabled than me, so they typically get first pick.
