Anybody else open their homes to wildlife in the winter? [lovepaws.info]
Hmmmm...and what happens when these deer are mature/huntable and are comfortable around humans?
Cleaning the cat litter is enough....I'm not going to clean up after wildlife in the house too. We have deer, mice, birds, & squirrels in the yard all the time, & they are welcome to shelter there, but my house is off limits.
That’s a tuff one… Those little ‘government goats’ devoured all the foliage from 5 newly planted (and greatly cared for) rhododendrons of mine.. They’ve become a serious danger on our rural highways ..and have few if any predators left, including the pot bellied ‘hunters’ watching ‘the game’ while drinking beer.
Otherwise, I’ve been discouraged to feed the crows. Assume the foxes have dens, and do not want indeginious birds dependant on my feeder/s… Having lived in the woods, I’ve concluded (other than my cleaned & filled daily summer bird bath), it’s best to let wild animals survive on their own, we’ve messed enough with their world
Yes many times. Many years ago we had a hedgehog wander into the house one night, and it spent and hour or two on the rug in front of the fire.
A strange thing however has happened in resent years here in the UK. ( Resent = since my youth, forty plus years. ) We used to have a very common species of mouse called the house mouse, because it often lived in people homes. It does not however seem to like modern houses, perhaps because there are few holes in the brick and wood work, and also it may not like central heating. So that it is becoming quite rare, and is certainly not seen in houses very often these days. Yet we now find that wood mice which used to be very shy of coming into homes, are now coming in in ever greater numbers, certainly the last two I saw were wood mice.
The wood mouse is a lot prettier and does less damage, yet it is sad to think that the house mouse is on its way out.
